My Story

How Unlost Calligraphy Co. came to be.

Stacy Yue Start of Calligraphy Journey Before Unlost Calligraphy Co

I began my calligraphy journey in March of 2018 when my sister asked me to be her Maid of Honor and asked if I could assist with signage and place cards since I’ve always had neat and legible handwriting.

At that point, calligraphy was something I had always wanted to do but struggled to teach myself via self-help books and hours of YouTube videos.

I joined a Facebook group and learned faux calligraphy, modern calligraphy, brush lettering, and watercolor lettering from calligraphy workshops that I found through this group. After completing these workshops, I incorporated calligraphy into my daily life by using it to mark appointments in my Passion Planner, incorporating calligraphy in my former workplace, etc. I gained confidence in my calligraphy and successfully completed the bachelorette party favors, place cards, wedding signage, seating chart, and more for my sister’s wedding in October 2018.

I continued to practice my calligraphy and challenged myself to do calligraphy with a variety of mediums and styles. I created my first commissioned signs for a few friends that have baking businesses and commissioned some pieces for my neighbors before completing my second set of wedding signage and acrylic place cards for my best friend’s wedding in 2020.

2020 brought some major life changes and hurdles and I felt lost in life. I went through a breakup, lost my job working for a study abroad company, and was unsure where my career path would lead during the COVID-19 pandemic. While unemployed, I took the time to dedicate myself to learning copperplate/pointed pen calligraphy, flourishing, and other styles through online workshops and virtual meet-ups.

Through calligraphy, I began to feel like I had found a sense of purpose outside of my job/career. I fell in love with calligraphy because it allows me to be creative & expressive and each piece I create is beautiful, varied, and unique. For me, creating calligraphy pieces is a great stress reliever and is something I really enjoy. I decided to turn this uncertain time in my life into something I’ve always dreamed of and officially started my own business! I love creating for myself, but I’m so glad I can now create pieces for others through Unlost Calligraphy. It warms my heart when I hear that a client loves their custom piece, or when people receive my calligraphy in the mail through envelope exchanges, cards, and gifts. Through this new venture, I aim to share the happiness and joy that calligraphy brings me with my customers.

So why Unlost Calligraphy Co.?

I was inspired by one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands, The Maine. Their song “(Un)Lost” really spoke to me especially during this uncertain and unknown chapter of my life. The song reminded me that in order to continue my journey of finding who I am that I have to take risks and have faith in the process.

(Un)Lost

“Unaware of where I'm going

Or if I'm going anywhere at all

But I know I'll take the leap

If it is worth the fall

So long as the blood keeps flowing

I'll set a sail and swim across

I'm not looking to be found

Just want to feel (un) lost”
